The first West End theatre built from scratch in fifty years, sunk into the block above the Elizabeth line at Tottenham Court Road.

It opened on 15 October 2022 with Marvellous, and the fact worth knowing is the gap it closed: no purpose-built theatre had opened in the West End for half a century before it. AHMM designed the building and Haworth Tompkins the auditorium, which seats 602 and was built into a site on top of a railway - the Elizabeth line runs underneath, and the whole room is isolated from it.
What that buys is a West End house with none of the Victorian compromises: no pillars, no restricted views, no staircases designed for smaller people. The seasons since have been short runs with large casts, which is what a flexible room of that size is for.
