Choral evensong under the dome, sung by the cathedral choir most afternoons, free and unticketed.

The paid visitor route closes in the late afternoon and the cathedral becomes a church again. Evensong is sung by the choir of men and boys most days at five, it lasts about forty minutes, and anybody may walk in and sit in the quire stalls where the choir is a few feet away.
It is the only way to be inside Wren's building without paying, and arguably the better way to hear it: the dome's long reverberation was designed around exactly this kind of singing, and the organ - Father Smith's case of 1697 with Willis's instrument behind it - is played as it was meant to be.
