Cecil Court

A Victorian shopping street of antiquarian booksellers, unchanged shopfronts end to end.

Lanes & alleys

Panter & Hall and Watkins Books, halfway down Cecil Court.

Also in Shopping and Classic British Shops and Literary London.

Built in the 1890s and never modernised: bow-fronted shops in dark green and black, hand-painted fascias, and behind the glass the antiquarian trade that has held on here for a century. Booksellers, print dealers, a coin and banknote shop, a children's book specialist. Mozart lodged on the street as a boy, and the passage between Charing Cross Road and St Martin's Lane is short enough to walk in a minute and slow enough to lose an afternoon in.
