Jared Moore, a computer scientist at Stanford, went through the conversation logs of nineteen people who say a chatbot damaged their mental health - 391,562 messages - and built a coded inventory of what was happening in them, including what the models said when users declared romantic feelings and when the model described itself as conscious. The first session of LAMBDA, a new series at the Institute of Psychiatry on minds and brains in the digital age, chaired by Tom Pollak and Hamilton Morrin.
