Performance venues

London's stages and concert rooms: the West End houses and the playhouses that make their own shows, the grand halls, the churches with a musical life, the jazz basements, the comedy clubs, the clubs proper, and the rooms above pubs where things start. What is on is listed under each venue, and in What's On.

Soho Theatre Walthamstow

A 1930 Granada cinema brought back as a 960-seat theatre, and Soho Theatre's second house.

The Granada opened on Hoe Street in 1930 and spent decades as one of the grandest cinemas in east London before closing; Waltham Forest Council restored it in partnership with Soho Theatre and it reopened in May 2025. The auditorium seats 960 and is historically protected at Grade II*, one step below the highest grade there is, and studio spaces, backstage facilities and four bars were built around it. Pantomime came back to the stage in 2025 after more than seventy years away.

The programme is Soho Theatre's, given a room six times the size of Dean Street: touring stand-up hours, Neon Nights as a monthly bill of comedians, cabaret, talks and podcasts recorded in front of an audience, new theatre and a Christmas show. Fifteen thousand tickets at £15 were set aside for people who live in the borough in the first year.

The foyer café is open through the day whether or not you have a ticket, there is pizza before shows, and the bars stay open to the public afterwards.
