Nick Bisley's case is that modern Asia was made by supply chains and market integration, that this produced growth without precedent and lifted enormous numbers of people out of poverty, and that the nationalism and great-power rivalry now rising across the region threaten the arrangement that produced it.
He is Pro Vice-Chancellor for Research at La Trobe University in Melbourne and edited the Australian Journal of International Affairs, which is to say he makes the argument from the part of the world with most to lose either way.
Put on by the Centre for Statecraft and National Security, which sits inside the Department of War Studies at King's College London and was formed in 2025 out of the International Centre for the Study of Radicalisation and the Centre for Grand Strategy. Ticketed, and open to anybody who books.
