On 16 June 1976 more than ten thousand Soweto schoolchildren walked out in protest at the apartheid regime and the police fired on them, which is where the months that followed began. Leon Bosch, Trinity Laban's double bass professor, is the son of an activist and was himself arrested that year.
He conducts the String Ensemble in music by South African composers, with Maximilian Lamprecht as double bass soloist. The programme plays twice in two days, at St Bartholomew the Great and here.
