The Pyramids came out of the spiritual jazz of the early 1970s - collective improvisation, African rhythm, and a politics of liberation that was never separate from the music - and are among the very few groups from that moment still playing. Idris Ackamoor leads on saxophone, piano and voice, with Sandra Poindexter on violin and Bobby Cobb on guitar.
