Mark Guiliana played the drums on Blackstar, and has worked with Brad Mehldau, M83 and St Vincent, but Beat Music is his own thing: a trio in which the drums are programmed-sounding and played live, with synth textures around them. The precision is the point - patterns that should require a machine, executed by three people.
