Moving mountains: intrepid women climbers

Nine mountaineers with peaks named after them, and almost nothing written about them.

Lecture / talkHistoryBooks & writersFree

At Royal Geographical Society.

Summits are usually named for men and monarchs. These nine women, from the eighteenth century onwards, climbed in the Alps, the Andes, the Rockies and the Karakoram against altitude, weather and a good deal of open hostility, and ended up on the map anyway. The talk is their stories, most of which have never been told at length. Free, in the Education Centre.
