Turgwe hippo: guardians of the Turgwe Hippo Trust

Keeping a hippo population alive through the 2024 drought in south-eastern Zimbabwe.

Lecture / talkParks & nature

At Royal Geographical Society.

The Turgwe Hippo Trust has worked on the Turgwe river in the Zimbabwean lowveld since 1994, when a drought left the hippos with no water and no grazing. The 2024 drought was worse. This is an account of the feeding, the boreholes and the anti-poaching work that got the animals through it, with an auction run by the actor Peter Egan. From £15.00.
