50th Anniversary of Benjamin Britten's Death

A dozen concerts marking fifty years since Britten died, mostly the songs he wrote for one voice.

'Your music seems to me the only reliable thing that is happening today in a world where everything else goes wrong all the time,' Imogen Holst wrote to Britten during the war. Fifty years after his death Wigmore takes the measure of him across twelve concerts, weighted towards the songs and chamber pieces the hall is built for rather than the operas.

Allan Clayton, Christine Rice and James Baillieu open with the song cycles alongside Schumann; the Britten Oboe Quartet, the Leonkoro Quartet with Purcell, Robin Tritschler and Malcolm Martineau with songs written for Peter Pears, and the O/Modernt Chamber Orchestra pairing Britten with Nico Muhly follow through December and into the spring.
