Belcea Quartet Beethoven Cycle

The Belcea play their way through the Beethoven quartets, a year early for the anniversary.

Classical

At Wigmore Hall.

Beethoven wrote sixteen string quartets over twenty-five years, and playing them as a set is the closest chamber music comes to a marathon: the same four people, the same instruments, and a composer who ends up somewhere nobody could have predicted from the start. The Belcea Quartet have recorded the complete cycle, which Gramophone said harked back to the Busch Quartet at its best.

Four concerts remain of the cycle, two this September and two in January, ahead of the 2027 anniversary of Beethoven's death.
