Vox Luminis: Monteverdi Vespers

The 1610 Vespers, one voice to a part.

Classical

At Wigmore Hall.

Monteverdi published the Vespro della Beata Vergine in 1610, setting the Latin evening office with every technique he had, old and new at once, and it is still the largest thing in early baroque music. Vox Luminis under Lionel Meunier do it one voice per part with period instruments, which makes the counterpoint audible in a way a choir cannot. 19:30, £18 to £60.
