Britain's only professional string orchestra, in residence for the season.
Classical
At Barbican Centre.
The Scottish Ensemble is the UK's only full-time professional string orchestra, and it plays standing up, without a conductor, which changes both how it sounds and how it looks. Three concerts across the season make up its Barbican residency.
The collaborations are the point: Scotland's National Youth Chamber Choir, the piper Brìghde Chaimbeul on Scottish smallpipes, and Caroline Shaw, whose own Barbican focus runs alongside this one and shares its closing night.
