Jazz on Screen: Ascenseur pour l'echafaud

Louis Malle's first film, with the score Miles Davis improvised to the picture.

Jazz

At Barbican Centre.

Malle was twenty-four when he made this 1958 thriller with Jeanne Moreau and Maurice Ronet, and Davis wrote almost nothing down: he watched the reels in a Paris studio and played. One of the few scores he composed. In Barbican Cinema 2. 16:00. £15.50, fees included. Part of the EFG London Jazz Festival.
