Darbar is the largest festival of Indian classical music outside India, and its twenty-first edition fills the Barbican with concerts, talks, masterclasses and late-night sets across both the Hindustani tradition of the north and the Carnatic tradition of the south.
Kala Ramnath on Hindustani violin meets Jayanthi Kumaresh on Carnatic veena in a 00:00 jugalbandi, a form built on two soloists answering each other; Ustad Wasifuddin Dagar sings dhrupad, the oldest surviving form of the tradition; and the sarod brothers Amaan and Ayaan Ali Bangash, sitarists Jasdeep Singh Degun and Ustad Irshad Khan and the vocalists Sandeep Narayan and Sunanda Sharma play across the week.
