A year of Reich for his ninetieth, with the percussionist who has become his standard-bearer.
Classical
At Barbican Centre.
Reich turns ninety, and the Barbican gives him six concerts across the season built around Colin Currie, whose group has been the composer's most reliable interpreter for two decades. The opening night brings In All Your Ways, a Barbican co-commission getting its first London performance.
The Colin Currie Group and Quartet, the London Symphony Orchestra under Susanna Mälkki, the LSO Percussion Ensemble and Guildhall students share the series, which includes Music for 18 Musicians - the 1976 piece that showed a generation what an hour of steadily shifting pulse could do to a room.
