Robbins's Dances at a Gathering and MacMillan's Song of the Earth in one programme.
Two long one-act works that go at the same question from opposite ends. Dances at a Gathering is an hour of Chopin played on a piano at the side of the stage while ten dancers come and go, with no plot and no scenery, and it is about company rather than solitude. Song of the Earth is set to Mahler's Das Lied von der Erde and has a figure called the Messenger of Death walking through it from the first bar.
Two hours forty including one interval. The house rates the content suitable for all. Tickets from £7.
