Cane Toads and Animalicious, with Mark Lewis

Two documentaries about animals behaving badly, with the director in the room afterwards.

At Prince Charles Cinema.

Australia imported the cane toad by the sackful in 1935 to eat a beetle that was destroying the sugar crop. The beetle could fly and the toad could not, and the toad turned out to be very good at making more toads. Mark Lewis filmed the consequences in 1988 as comedy rather than lament, interviewing people about their feelings for an amphibian that is now everywhere. Animalicious, from 1999, collects six stories of people shot, landed on or otherwise wronged by animals, including a bomb-diving duck. Lewis takes questions after both.
