Elaine May's gangster film over one night, introduced by Christina Newland.
Nicky has stolen from his boss and there is a man coming for him; he calls Mikey, the friend he has had all his life. John Cassavetes and Peter Falk play it as two men who know each other far too well, and Elaine May shot so much film that the studio took it away from her. What she made is a friendship curdling in real time, funny until it is not. The film writer Christina Newland introduces this screening, part of a season on the sensitive gangster film run with the National Film and Television School.
