Love is Colder than Death

Fassbinder's first film, introduced by Sophie Monks Kaufman, in a season about gangsters with feelings.

At Prince Charles Cinema.

Rainer Werner Fassbinder was twenty-four and playing the lead: Franz, a small-time pimp caught in a triangle with a gangster who wants to recruit him and a woman who is with them both. It was booed at its Berlin premiere for being a French New Wave pastiche, and it is one, deliberately - long static takes, flat delivery, Munich streets. The film writer Sophie Monks Kaufman introduces it. The season around it, Gangsters Have Feelings Too, is programmed with the National Film and Television School's course in film studies, programming and curation.
