The Witch, introduced by Robert Eggers

Eggers' first film, and he is introducing it himself.

At Prince Charles Cinema.

A family is thrown out of their plantation in 1630 New England for being too devout even for the Puritans, farms alone at the edge of a wood, and loses the baby. Suspicion settles on the eldest daughter. Robert Eggers built the dialogue from court records and diaries of the period, lit by daylight and candle, and the film argues about whether there is a witch for as long as it can bear to. He introduces this screening.
